The need for continuing, comprehensive, urban transportation planning on a cooperative basis among all levels of governmental units is emphasized by the growing importance of transportation as a major segment of our economy. Transport facilities have linked our nation together socially, economically, and politically. As our national popula tion and economic activity increase in the future, so also will the demands for transport improvement, both in the need for the movement of goods and the need for travel.
